  • Everyday I take my class attendance by telling my students I love them.... For example~
    Me: I love you, Ashley...
Ashely: I love you too, Ms. Choi

Anyway... there's a boy in my morning kindergarten class that tells me everyday that he loves me (outside of attendance). He tells me he wants to marry me! One cold day, he came to school with a wrinkled flyer in his hands. Then he hands it over to me. I ask...
    Me: What is this?
A.P: I dug this up from the snow!
Me: (looking at it closer... it says HOME SAVING on the flyer) What is it for?
A.P (gives me a big smile) "Ms. Choi! I want to buy you a house someday"

A cute story! I hope he remembers me when he's older so he could buy me a house lol (A.P)

  • I love kindies. Why are they so cute?

A boy sat down on the carpet and asked me to tie his shoes. So, I stooped down to his level and started untying the knot. Then he asked me, "Ms. Choi, how OLD are you?" I was curious to see how old he perceived me... so I asked him, "How old do I look?" He looked at me veery intently for about 30 seconds and I immediately regretted asking that question. He finally decided to answer by saying "hmm.. about eight." (T.S)

To him, eight is considered a BIG number. Hey~ he's only five :)

  • Ah~ the first day of school was T.O.U.G.H!! It was so stressful and so hectic. I came home and cried because I thought I was the worst teacher ever! :(

It was a whole lot different from what I imagined. Now I know... I know what to expect and want from my kids. Today (3rd day) was a lot better. I'm so blessed to have supportive kindergarten team, school parents/community, and my boyfriend.

Ok ~ so our kindergarten schedule consist of one snack/recess time during the day. Some of the parents forgot to pack their kid's snack in their bag, so I gave them my extra granola bars. The next day I got an e-mail from a parent who wrote this...

Thanks Miss Choi.  Poor T came home yesterday and said, "Mom, you need to pack me a snack tomorrow.  All I had today was water and Miss Choi gave me a gorilla bar".  Cute.  Thanks for that.  T already says how much he likes you.

aww~ so cute! A gorilla bar! I think I will call it that from now on. (T.M) :)

  • Waking up late and drinking coffee in the afternoon is a BAD idea. I can't fall asleep and I have to wake up in 4.5 hours.

Anyway.. I've decided to dedicate xanga to post about my work-life. I have the best job in the world. I have so many interesting funny stories to tell... I don't want to forget any of my kids. I want to be a teacher that can remember every single one of them even after 20 years. *from now on..* I've already lost some precious memories with other kids from afterschool, daycare, church...etc.

I was about to teach a class of first graders about 3-dimensional shapes. Well, kids learn best when they are physically doing something (hands-on). So my CT and I told the kids about 3-D shapes and asked them to bring some 3-D shaped items from home (cereal box, ice cream cone...etc.) and that we would make a "SHAPE MUSEUM" with all the items at the end of the unit. Then couple days later we got a phone call from a distressed mom whose child was worried that he couldn't go on a field-trip. We were like WTH? What field trip? Then finally we realized that the kid thought we were actually going to a place called "SHAPE MUSEUM." Obviously he wasn't paying attention... (W.S)

My kindergartens know a sign to show me when they need to use the restroom. If I allow them to go at that time, they know to get a bucket and place it on their desk so that I know they're in the bathroom. Second day of summer school.... a kid shows me the bathroom sign and so I told him he was excused. He was about to leave the classroom without placing the bucket on his desk, so I reminded him, "Remember the bucket?"...  "Ohhh~~" Then he walked over to the table, grabbed the bucket, pulled down his pants, and peed IN the bucket. Oh my! (M.L)

  • Buying school supplies has always been fun for me. I remember growing up and it was time to buy new school supplies, I had the time of my life! Well, it hasn't changed a bit. When I shop for school related things, it's like I'm a kid in a candy store. Everything is just so cool, different, unique... and so... COOL! Call  me nerd... but I enjoy school shopping more than clothes shopping. Wait, I take that back.. Well... it's close. Anway, these past couple days, I've been school shopping like a mad-man. Kids these days are lucky that they are new interesting things to stimulate their minds. They are so many educational fun games and activites these days. They really don't know they're learning! hah! Oh!! And don't even get me started on children's books. I absolutely adore them. I can read children's books all day. I truly believe being a teacher is one of my biggest passions in my life. I hope I can keep this attitude even after 20 years of teaching.

Here are some pictures of how crazy I went w/ school shopping over the weekend
